Pocket Bike Safety Tips

Although pocket bikes are small and look more like toys than proper motorcycles they are, in fact powerful machines, and should be treated as such. This includes making sure your bike is maintained properly and always being aware of safety issues when riding. The rules below should always be followed to ensure both your own and other peoples safety.

  • Wearing the right safety equipment is essential. The type of clothes you would wear for riding a full size bike are appropriate. Leather is a good idea as it will protect your skin if (or should we say when!) you fall off. Always wear approved helmets, goggles, gloves and knee pads.
  • Make sure your bike is in top condition every time you ride it. Do a thorough inspection including checking the tire pressure, the frame tension, the amount of fuel and the integrity of the frame. Make sure nuts and bolts are tight and tighten any loose ones properly. Nearly all injurie that arise from the use of pocket bikes happen because of poor maintenance or problems with bike.
  • Take care of your bike by having a regular maintenance schedule and stick to it. Don’t skip on any part of it!
  • Do not ride your pocket bike at night or on public highways. pocket bikes are meant to be used on specially made tracks away from the public streets. It is extremely dangerous to ride them on the highway as, due to their small size, other vehicles won’t be able to see you.
  • Do not ride if the weather is bad. It is dangerous to ride in icy conditions or when there is fog or rain. Also make sure you never ride when impaired in some way. This includes riding while not in the best of health or after drinking alcohol or taking medication.
  • Pocket bikes must be used on hard, smooth surfaces not in off road conditions. They are not dirt bikes!
  • Never allow more than one person to ride a pocket bike. They are only designed for a single rider and two people on one bike is asking for trouble.

Pocket bikes are great fun, but as we have said, they are not toys and should not be treated as such. They are seriously powerful machines that deserve your respect. as long as you look after them properly and follow the rules you will be safe while riding your pocket bike.
